iPhone Stand

3D Design & Rendering - 2015

This was a fun personal project I worked on while at the Rapid Development Center. I decided to design and 3D print something to keep my phone propped up while sitting at my desk. For a nice touch, I decided to add our logo to the back.

The Process

Taking Measurements

Before starting any of the fun stuff, I needed to make sure I knew the specifications of what I needed to design. Thanks to the help of Apple's handy tech specs page, I was able to locate the dimensions of the iPhone and iron out the details.

Designing

Using SolidWorks and the dimensions I previously worked out, I quickly built out a simple 3D design and embossed our logo into it.

Validating Design

Before printing, I needed to make sure the dimensions were all correct. I tested the phone stand for interference from the phone to make sure everything fit snug, but not too tight.

3D Printing

Once the design checked out, it was time to begin the 3D printing process. From start to finish, printing this piece took about a full day (including dissolving time).
